Continued Ballarat Growth Expands Geelong Workforce

The employment landscape in Geelong has experienced one of the countries largest employment shifts in the last decade, from the closure of the Avalon maintenance base for Qantas (2014), Alcoa’s Point Henry Aluminium Smelter closure (2014) and Ford ceasing production in 2016.

Fortunately, Geelong has weathered the storm, with a diverse economy consisting of 18,000 businesses and a labour force of over 126,300 people. Today, Geelong’s major industry strengths include:

  • health
  • education and research
  • advanced manufacturing
  • defence
  • information and communications technology
  • tourism and
  • food and agriculture

However, with easy transport lines to Melbourne, white-collar professionals can easily commute to the big smoke, leaving talent shortages in Geelong.

Fortunately, neighbouring Ballarat continues to grow, and with the new Ballarat GovHub under construction, will become the home to up to 1000 Victorian Government employees; including up to 600 public sector positions. And with more and more Gen Y families moving back to their roots in Ballarat, the white-collar professional talent pool continues to expand.

Established in 1997, JK Personnel has direct access to this Ballarat workforce. Their established presence means that people looking for work go to JK first. In fact, JK interview an average of 50 candidates every month.

Speak with JK now (at the new Geelong office), to find out how they can bring this talent pool to you in Geelong.
