Street dining to resurrect Geelong CBD
Under a new proposal to help hospitality businesses recover from the pandemic, Geelong streets could transform into temporary open-air dining spaces.
While some businesses had survived on takeaway services during the lock-down, temporary outdoor dining areas would help attract people back to the Geelong CBD.
Local bars and restaurants in support of the proposal agree that when the restrictions do ease, physically distanced outdoor activity will be one of the quickest and safest ways to local reactivate businesses.
Before then, the Geelong region may have its own category of COVID restrictions if cases don’t fall in line with other regional parts of the state.
While G21 councils are presently included under the state governments plan to ease restrictions, recent outbreaks and the proximity to Melbourne have the region under close watch.
