Ballarat Gov Hub Opens

Ballarat’s GovHub officially opened in May. The hub will house up to 1,000 Victorian Government workers, including up to 600 public sector positions relocated from Melbourne. Population forecasts suggest an additional 15,900 jobs will need to be created in Ballarat over the next 15 years.

New Skills Authority

The state Government has announced Victorians will be able to access the training they need for the jobs they want via a $383.8 million investment in skills, training and higher education.

The investment also aims to drive innovation across the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector, providing an integrated approach to the quality of teaching and training and ensure TAFE and training providers are properly funded to deliver high quality training.

Amazon sets up shop

More than 1,000 construction jobs are set to be created with a new $1.5 billion office development at 555 Collins Street, to house among others, tech giant Amazon. Amazon plans to serve its retail customers and develop a new AWS cloud infrastructure region in the state. 

The first tower is expected to create more than 1,500 jobs during construction and accommodate about 4,500 workers once built.
